Two Educational Philosophies That Naturally Align with VEGGY TOYS

At MYUM, we create toys that accompany children as they discover the world around them.

Natural shapes inspired by the world of plants and animals, organic materials, textures to explore, gentle colors, and objects that invite babies to touch, hold, listen, observe, and imagine: our approach naturally echoes certain principles of Montessori and Steiner Waldorf education.

Two different educational philosophies, but with a shared belief: children are at the heart of their own development, and play is an essential part of growing and learning.

    🌱 Montessori Education: Encouraging Independence

Founded by Maria Montessori (1870–1952), the Montessori approach places the child at the center of their learning journey.

It emphasizes independence, respect for each child's individual pace, hands-on exploration, and freedom of choice within a carefully prepared environment.

In Montessori education, adults observe and guide children, offering support when needed rather than directing every activity.

Montessori materials and activities are generally designed to encourage children to handle, experiment, repeat, and discover through their own experience.

This emphasis on hands-on exploration is particularly meaningful to MYUM.

Our toys are not designed to dictate a single way to play. A little vegetable can be observed, held, shaken, touched, carried around, or simply cuddled.

The child creates their own journey of discovery.

🌿 Steiner Waldorf: Nurturing Imagination and a Connection to Nature

Developed by Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) in the early 20th century, Steiner Waldorf education takes a holistic approach to child development.

It places particular value on free play, imagination, creativity, art, storytelling, movement, and a connection with Nature.

Rather than relying heavily on highly structured or electronic toys, this approach often encourages experiences that leave plenty of room for a child's imagination.

A simple object can become anything a child imagines.

An apple might become a fruit to pick, a little character to feed, or the hero of a story created by the child.

This freedom to imagine, transform, and create is something we deeply value at MYUM.

🍎 Two Approaches, One Shared Idea: Let Children Explore

Montessori and Steiner Waldorf are distinct educational philosophies, each with their own principles and practices.

Montessori places particular emphasis on independence, hands-on learning, and learning through experience.

Steiner Waldorf places strong value on imagination, free play, creativity, and a connection with Nature.

At MYUM, we do not aim to reproduce either educational method.

Instead, we are inspired by some of their values when designing toys that leave room for the child.

Simple, tactile, poetic toys that do not do everything for them, but instead evolve alongside their imagination.

    🥕 Toys Inspired by Nature

This philosophy is at the heart of our VEGGY TOYS collection.

Fruits, vegetables, little animals, and other elements inspired by the natural world become soft and colorful companions for play.

We love the idea that a child can discover a carrot, an eggplant, or a little animal through their senses, their own play, and their imagination.

Crochet also brings a unique sensory quality to our toys. Its texture, small raised stitches, and softness naturally invite little hands to touch, grasp, hold, and explore.

Our toys are designed to accompany children as they discover the world, without prescribing a single way to play.

    🤲 Discovering Through the Senses

From their earliest months, babies discover their environment through their senses.

The crocheted texture of our rattles offers little hands a tactile surface to touch and explore.

Our comforting toys can accompany moments of quiet exploration and manipulation, supporting early experiences with grasping and fine motor movements.

And when it is time to slow down, our music boxes can become part of a calming bedtime ritual, creating a gentle musical moment before sleep.

💚 At MYUM, We Believe in the Power of Open-Ended Play

We believe a toy does not need to be complicated to offer endless possibilities.

A toy can simply be beautiful to look at, wonderful to touch, and open to imagination.

That is why we create objects that give children the freedom to discover, handle, repeat, transform, and invent.

Inspired by Nature and crafted with care, VEGGY TOYS are made to accompany children on their first little adventures — at their own pace, through their hands, their senses, and their imagination.

Because at MYUM, we believe that sometimes the most beautiful toy is the one that leaves the most room for a child to dream.
